Earlier this year I found two really great sites for teaching toddlers & I really wanted to more actively "teach" Graham. My first attempt didn't go so well because I was dealing with morning sickness & then our summer was incredibly busy. I decided to put this project on hold for a little while, get things around here under control a bit better & do a little more research & planning into what types of activities I wanted to do with Graham.
Most of my information comes from 1+1+1=1, Totally Tots & Activity Mom.These are the best resources that I have found for toddlers & I just love all the ideas that I can find there on a regular basis. A few weeks ago, I learned about Songs for Saplings & downloaded their CD from iTunes. This is a CD that takes a Bible memory verse for every letter of the alphabet & makes a fun little song out of it. Totally Tots has printables for each of these verses but I'm not sure if we'll use them or not. I'm going to try & see how things go. I also subscribe to the Sesame Street Podcast for Graham & they have recently started going through the alphabet as well so we'll still be working our way through the alphabet but I'm not sure that I'll spend the entire week just focusing on letters. We really need to work on cooperation & listening activities & I have found so many other craft & activity ideas over the internet that I am just going to go with whatever I come up with.
However, in keeping with the alphabet theme, I was in Toys R Us the other week getting the new Elmo DVD & an alphabet magnet board. I noticed they had flash cards in one of the clearance bins so I decided to pick up a set of the ABCs & a set of the numbers 1-100 to use with Graham too. I really don't know how well this will go over but I'm going to try & see how things go.
My friend Jill & I have been talking a little about what we are teaching our boys & sharing resources. At their house Seeds Family Worship is a huge success & I have watched a few videos on their YouTube Channel. I haven't tried any of them with Graham yet but I plan to incorporate them however I can. I have also stumbled across the Go Fish Guys & they are great for Graham! They also do silly little songs using Bible verses & Graham loves to dance around the living room while they play. The first one he watched was The 10 Commandments & I bet he played it over & over at least 100 times.
At this point, I am still not sure what other resources I will use. I love getting him books for Barnes & Noble but I have run out of room on his bookshelf. I am thinking about this as a storage solution but I have to figure out where to put it before I can actually start. I have a lot of organizational & cleaning out type tasks to take care of before Libby is born & I have found so many different ideas online that I want to implement so now I just need to move on to the task of doing some of them through out the next few months.
OK, back to the topic of "school." We are starting again on Monday & I promise to keep you up-to-date on how things are progressing. I hope to have tons of pictures to go along with each post but I guess it all depends on how much cooperation I get from Graham.
The Plans for this upcoming week are:
Memory Verse: Keep me as the apple of your eye. Psalm 17:8a
Sesame Street Podcast: Celebrate the letter "A!"
Try playing the ABC Zoo Game online
The letter A (is for Apple) & a (is for alligator) flash cards
Watch ABCs with Elmo
Play with the ABC magnets
Read with the Tag Jr: ABC Animal Orchestra
I am very optimistic this time & I really hope to get a lot of cooperation out of Graham. However, I am going into this only expecting about 5 minutes of his attention before he's wanting to go outside or run around the living room.
